Top Jewellery Style Tips everyone needs to know!

Do you choose and style your jewellery to complement your wardrobe?

Do you make the best use of your jewellery collection?

.Jewellery style tips

You’ve got an overflowing jewellery collection filled with pieces you love (or had forgotten about), but you aren’t making the most of it or you are not sure where to start.

Or maybe you are just not confident about which pieces work with each other and for you.

Does this sound familiar?

Fear not: I have put together a few handy jewellery, style and fashion tips and tricks to help you. Wear your fine, fashion and costume jewellery to complement your style, personality and wardrobe.

Ultimately, we should all be able to incorporate great jewellery into our everyday & evening looks!

So let’s have a look…

Create layers with necklaces & bangles

Experimenting with contrasting lengths, shapes, textures and colours to make appealing layers with necklaces, bangles and sometimes earrings can be so much fun!

If you’re layering necklaces then go for different lengths to draw the eye up to your face. Different shapes, colours and textures will often work a treat!

You can experiment with wearing multiple earring styles if you have more than one pair of ear piercings or want to combine ear cuffs with other earrings.

For bangles and bracelets, you can pretty much create an arm party of different pieces which will flash and jangle as you move.

It’s easy: simply gather together a collection of necklaces and pendants of different lengths, textures and designs and try them on in different combinations to see what works. Make a note of the combinations you like if that helps to trigger your memory later.

Rinse and repeat with bangles!

Know when enough is enough!

You know how it is sometimes: too much is, well, too much.

If you’re drawing attention to your face and neckline with layered necklaces or a piece of statement jewellery, you don’t really need an armful of bangles to compete for attention!

Or if you’re wearing a bold pair of earrings, you can keep your neckline bare or choose a more subtle piece!

Equally, a bold pair of earrings with a matching necklace can work beautifully.

If you’ve accessorised with multiple pieces then consider taking a leaf out of Coco Chanel’s book: “Before you leave the house, look in the mirror and remove one accessory”.

Or not, if you follow these tips wisely!

Consider your earrings carefully!

It can be all too easy to forget about earrings!

However, your earrings are usually in the field of vision for anyone who is talking to you, so they are important! Especially after the year we have all just experienced with Covid-19 and our new found expertise on Zoom calls!

You should aim to choose earrings to frame your face and complement your hair, eye colour and skin tone.

If you have long hair a great tip is to select a colour or metal finish which is more likely to be visible, depending on your hair colour.

And don’t forget to change your earrings!

I’m guilty of this myself: it can be so easy to wear the same pair of earrings for days or weeks on end. Or maybe you almost never change them.

But remembering to change up your earrings is a great way to add interest and style to your everyday look!

You can make subtle changes to your earrings by simply wearing a variety of small stud earrings, or you can add some sparkle and movement with some threader, hoop or dangle earrings, depending on your outfit & mood.

A good place to start is digging through your jewellery collection to find what you haven’t worn in a while. You can also purchase new pairs of earrings which catch your attention and will add some variety and interest to your jewellery collection.

Mix your metals

Once mixing different metals was seen as a fashion faux pas, not any more! This is a lovely trend now!

So think about pendants which contrast with the colour of the chain they are attached to, layered necklaces or bangles in different metals to add vibrant interest and colour to your outfit.

You will find a number of pieces in the current Spirit & Grace Style jewellery collection.

Accessorise to complement your outfit

This sounds straight forward enough, doesn’t it? But I know myself that it doesn’t always happen.

Before you start dressing have a think about what you most want to wear to wherever you’re going.

You might decide you really want to wear a specific piece of jewellery to an outing, in which case you should choose your clothing and other accessories to work with it. Otherwise, you might pick the outfit first and then match the jewellery and accessories to it.

Either way works and if you’ve spent some time getting the combination right you should look stylish and well put together.

What is the focal point for your jewellery?

Where do you want people’s gaze to be directed if you’re dressing up for something special?

If you’re wearing jewellery that’s intended to catch the eye, then it’s best to make the visual focus on the area of the body to which you want to draw attention: neck, ears, hands, etc…

Match your necklace to your necklace!

For instance, if you have a low V-necked outfit then a pendant sitting in the V above your cleavage will work wonders.

A long necklace will look great over higher necked and crew-necked clothing.

And a rounded necklace is good with a scoop or other rounded necklines.

Don’t be a slave to new trends

We all know someone who is far too much of a fashion slave, don’t we!

Trends influence what all of us wear to some extent, which is fine. But it’s never a good idea to slavishly follow fashion at the expense of your own taste and personality.

Instead, figure out and evolve your own personal style! One that ensures you exude confidence! We are all different and our personalities should be shining through!

Hence when choosing your jewellery, always think about what works with your colouring, frame and sense of style. Taking these things into consideration will ensure a great finish!

Consider not wearing a necklace!

Sometimes it’s a good idea to go without a necklace!

If you’re wearing a statement pair of earrings then not wearing a necklace can be a good way to go! It all depends on your outfit. Wearing a very low cut or high necked outfit can benefit from not wearing a necklace!

And most important of all…IGNORE THE RULES!

This is my most favourite tip: break the rules as you see fit.

Dressing up should be fun and it should be personal to you. Your style is about who you are and how you want to appear to others. It doesn’t have to be twin sets and pearls, or free flowing and boho for that matter.

If what works for you is doing whatever you want and following none of the typical fashion tips, then my advice is: go for it.
