Are you a “Shrinking Violet” or a “Vivid Peacock?”

When you consider your dominant personality trait, which do you sway towards?  The “Shrinking Violet” or the “Vivid Peacock”?

There will always be a time in our lives whether at work, the school gates or a party when we wonder what others think when they see us and if they see us for what we really are!

We all share traits along the way and can switch between the different traits depending on the company or environment you are in.

Shrinking Violet

Anyone coming across the expression ‘Shrinking Violet’ for the first time might be excused for being confused.

The violet flower gives the impression of shyness, growing close to the safety of the ground, often beneath other plants, shrubs and trees. In comparison to larger shrubs and flowers, violets do seem to look as though they are shrinking, or at the very least making themselves look smaller.

However, the ‘shrinking violet’ is not shrinking, it is merely shy, which can be viewed as an affliction and can undoubtedly make social situations more difficult, even excruciatingly painful sometimes, but shyness is just a different way of being and they have a beautiful gift.

The inspiring strengths of a “Shrinking Violets” tend to be:

Thoughtful & mindful of others
Keen listeners
Insightful with incredible observational skills
Calming and grounding

Shyness provides an opportunity for personal fulfilment, it provides a challenge to overcome, and an obstacle to surpass.

With shyness comes attentiveness, independence, thoughtfulness, insightfulness, and approachability.

It may seem counterintuitive, but many famous actresses and larger-than-life personalities are quite shy.

Keira Knightley, the British star has admitted that she was “very shy” in her twenties.  In an interview, she stated, “It took me a lot of years to try and stop pleasing a lot of people and allow myself to have fun.”

Vivid Peacock

In contrast, the “Vivid Peacock” displays itself through its confidence and beauty, daring to be bold & different!

With its grace this bright-coloured, powerful bird is striking, exuding power, vibrancy, self-love, honour and integrity while facing life’s challenges with courage and confidence.

The peacock is a showy bird, with its bright colours and beautiful tail feathers.  It struts around, flashing their feathers to attract a partner.  It is not hard to imagine that a person with the personality traits of a peacock is someone who adores attention.  A peacock loves to be noticed, they sparkle, are elegant and are the life & soul of the party.

If you are a ‘Vivid Peacock’, your common characteristics are:

Socially orientated & dramatic
Strong, honest and loyal
Emotional, warm & sensitive
Act spontaneously with impulsive energy
Filled with curiosity

Eva Longoria who has made her fortune in recent years as an actress due to her confidence, self-awareness, beauty and strikingly vivid personality, has revealed that she was once teased for her appearance as a child.

It looks to me like Eva has completed a transformation from ‘Shrinking Violet’ into a ‘Vivid Peacock!’

And now a mum to a gorgeous little boy…… who knows what personality traits he will take on!

Really interesting article on how we can express ourselves to others. I have to say I’ve always admired Kira Knightly’s style but love seeing women who are loud and proud to stand out in a crowd. It’s only now that I’ve just started my fourth decade that I’ve grown confident enough to start playing around with fashion. Let’s embrace being both a Violet and peacock when we want to be x
